The UK’s first Mito Monkey Mascot is launched!
On Sunday July 14th 2019 the Charlie Gard Foundation attended a charity Fun Run in Barnsley in aid of Daniel, who is currently fundraising for a specialist hydrotherapy pool. The Fun Run involved a one mile walk around the town centre, and participants were encouraged to dress up and have ‘fun’ along their run.
This seemed like the perfect opportunity for us to introduce everyone to our brand new mito advocate. And so, we would love to introduce you to the UK’s first Mito Monkey Mascot, inspired by our very own Charlie Monkey that is currently sold in our charity shop.
Our Mito Monkey will be making appearances at a variety of events throughout the year spreading awareness for mitochondrial disease, and for our charity too. The story of Charlie Gard reached households around the world, and now that mito has had worldwide coverage we feel it’s our duty to continue Charlie’s work in raising awareness for this currently incurable disease.
However, our new Mito Monkey cannot do this alone and we ask you to join us in raising awareness for mito. We’ll be releasing our first calendar competition later this week, and our plush monkeys will be reduced from £8 to £6 for the whole of July. You’ll be needing your monkeys at the ready if you’re wanting to participate in the calendar competition, so please do keep your eyes peeled for the official launch this week!
We also have our unique Charlie’s Cheeky Monkey Run’s for our younger supporters. They are fantastically fun events that you can easily organise yourself, or perhaps get your local nursery or children’s centre involved too. If you’d like to know more information about these runs then please visit our dedicated page here.
If you’re organising a charity event for us and would like our Mito Monkey to attend, then please do drop us an email on firstname.lastname@example.org and we can check availability for your event.
And do keep your eyes peeled for our Mito Monkey who’ll be running at various events throughout the year, including this year’s Great North Run!
We really hope you can all support our monkeys in the campaign to drive awareness of mitochondrial diseases to every corner of the world and help us to create a brighter, mito future.
