Challenge 22

Charlie’s Challenge series was officially launched during the pandemic in 2021 and was called Challenge 21. You can find out about how this started off the back of the Covid-19 pandemic here. Challenge 21 created a multitude of tasks, ideas and challenges to help motivate, support and fundraise and they were all centred around the number 21.

We’re thrilled to say that in 2022 we’re continuing with this fantastic campaign with Challenge 22.

We’re looking for people who want to help, who want to get fit, who want to try something different, who want to achieve something, who want to raise funds – whether collectively or individually – and we’re looking for people who want to make a real difference to those who suffer from the incurable and life-limiting condition that is mitochondrial disease. And the question on our lips is: what will you do?

What is Challenge 22?

Challenge 22 is a collection of 22 challenges, and we’ve got something for everyone: runners, swimmers, riders, bakers, readers, entertainers, gamers, active people, quiet people, ambitious people, busy people, team challenges and individual challenges too, so no matter your abilities, time or skills, we’ve got you covered. Just take a look at our challenges below for all the inspiration you need to get involved in fundraising for our wonderful charity.

We’ll be looking for participants to sign up for each challenge and depending on the challenge we’ll be looking for people to raise £22, £220, £2200 or be a part of raising £22,000!

We have a whole host of ways in which you can support us from collecting pennies at home to baking cakes, to abseiling and cycling, to horse riding and reading, to shopping at your favourite online stores, to knitting and crafting – there is something for everyone. Our Challenge 22 campaign launches in during Volunteers’ Week in June 2022 and will run until December 31st 2022 so you have plenty of time to get your fundraising activities planned, started and achieved!

Why support us?

Every day a child in the UK will be born and go on to be diagnosed with a mitochondrial disorder. There’s currently no cure for this debilitating disease, and very few treatments, and most children that live with mitochondrial disease won’t live to see their fifth birthday. This is a truly haunting statistic – and one that we wish to change through funding pioneering research – but we also want to give sufferers hope and support in the here and now as well as giving hope to one day finding a cure for this devastating disease.

Everything we do here at the Charlie Gard Foundation is about giving families lasting memories, and ensuring that those that live with mitochondrial disease live a fulfilling, comfortable and dignified life through the gifting of essential medical equipment, memory making gifts, garden renovations, treatment grants, family photoshoots, holidays and breaks and much more.

Your support would not only be helping us to spread awareness for the foundation, but you’ll be helping to fund vital research into better treatments, and funding precious memories for families that don’t have the luxury of time with their loved ones. We can’t give the gift of time, but we can help our families make the most of every precious moment they have, and by gifting us your time and support you’ll be making a difference to hundreds of families and individuals around the UK, and helping us to create a brighter mito future because mito matters.

How do I sign up?

You can view all of our challenges underneath our video below. On each page there is a sign-up form so please do have a good browse of the challenges and then sign up for what you’d most like to do. Fancy more than one challenge? No problem! Each form asks which challenge you’d like to do so simply mention them in the comments and we’ll be in touch with you about the next steps! And for any queries or questions please don’t hesitate to email Stephanie at stephanie@thecharliegardfoundation.org.
