Every day a child born in the UK will go on to be diagnosed with a mitochondrial disorder
Why get involved?
Raising funds for charity can be a wonderful and emotional experience as you help to support those in need. You may have been looking for inspiration to take on a once in a life time challenge, or perhaps you enjoy baking and want to put your skills to good use. Whatever your motivation or inspiration we would be delighted to have you join our team and help us to create awareness for mitochondrial diseases as well as raising vital funds to help us continue supporting our mito families.
Why fundraise for us?
With so many worthy causes and charities out there why would you choose to fundraise for the Charlie Gard Foundation? We are one of the only charities in the UK that specialise in mitochondrial disease, supporting families and individuals affected by mito and also fund vital research projects into treatments for this currently incurable disease. We hope our animation below will give a brief insight into what mitochondrial disease is and what we do as a charity.
Awareness for mitochondrial disease is paramount for mito patients. Without awareness we won’t be able to raise the funds needed to invest in pioneering research, and to help support our families affected by a mitochondrial diagnosis. With more children dying of mitochondrial disease than childhood cancer, it’s evident that more needs to be done, and we can’t do that without your help. There are very few treatments for mitochondrial disease, and there is currently no cure, but data shows that developments in mitochondrial research could also help benefit those affected by other medical illnesses such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease, cancer and other illnesses, so the potential for our research to help other areas of medicine is very real indeed.
By supporting our charity you are helping to raise funds for vital research projects working to find viable treatments for mitochondrial sufferers, and also helping to give those that suffer with mito the support and services they need to live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. You’ll also be helping us to provide a variety of services to mito patients to help them live fulfilling, happy and comfortable lives and make precious family memories. By holding an event, or participating in an event, you’re also helping us with our mission to spread awareness of the disease so no matter how big or small your support is you’re helping us to create a brighter mito future because mito matters.
